KOMFO ANOKYE TEACHING HOSPITAL CELEBRATES “REP YOUR CULTURE” TO MARK GHANA MONTH

In a vibrant display of cultural diversity and unity, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) celebrated its first-ever “Rep Your Culture” event as part of activities marking the Ghana Month celebration. The event, held on 28th March, 2024, brought together staff from various directorates and units of diverse ethnic backgrounds to showcase the rich tapestry of their Ghanaian heritage.

Decked in traditional attire representing various ethnic groups across the nation, participants filled the hospital grounds and corridors with colourful displays of Ghanaian culture. From intricately woven kente cloth to beautifully adorned smocks and regal batakari, each outfit spoke volumes about the pride and identity of its wearer.

Mrs. Grace Boakye-Yiadom, a Senior Administrative Manager, at the office of the Director of Nursing and Midwifery Service (DNMS), KATH, shared her enthusiasm for the event, stating “It’s heartwarming to see colleagues come together to celebrate our shared identity as Ghanaians. This event has truly brought a sense of unity and camaraderie among staff of the hospital.”

As the festivities drew to a close, participants expressed their hopes for the event to become an annual tradition, serving as a beacon of cultural pride and unity for years to come.

Dr. Michael Leat, Senior Specialist and Lead Clinician of the Trauma and Orthopaedics Directorate commended management of the hospital for organising the maiden “Rep Your Culture” day as it helped to enhance camaraderie among the staff.

He recommended that the event is held periodically to help bring staff together to project their rich cultural heritage.

With its inaugural success, the “Rep Your Culture” event at KATH has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on Ghana Month celebrations and reinforced the hospital’s commitment to cultural diversity and inclusivity.
