Under the first phase of the project, work has completed on the comprehensive repair of the leaking concrete roof of the “Gee” blocks which contain the bulk of the hospital’s wards, using part of the funds that have been received since the launch of the fundraising campaign on 10th November, 2023 by the Asantehene. Civil works have also started at A4 and A5 wards of the “A” Block.

This comprehensive renovation works will be the first of its kind in the history of the hospital since its commencement of operations in 1955.

Prof. Addai-Mensah explaining a point to the Asantehene during the inspection visit

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the launch of the fundraising ceremony, alluded to previous attempts by successive governments to maintain the 70-year-old blocks, and reiterated the need for public-spirited individuals and corporate organisations to come on board to support, “since government alone cannot shoulder this huge burden”.

“I encourage everyone in Asanteman and even beyond to contribute his or her widow’s mite to the HeKAP to save the hospital for the benefit of all”, he said.

He expressed his profound appreciation and that of the hospital to the Asantehene for his visionary and bold initiative. He was also thankful to the  individuals who had so far donated or pledged their support for the project.
