In a proactive move to ensure improvement in health facilities and quality of care to patients, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, visited the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to inspect the ongoing modernisation and renovation of the old “Gee” blocks at the hospital. The 10 Million United States Dollar project was initiated by the Asantehene as part of the legacy projects being executed to mark the 25th Anniversary of his coronation.
Otumfuo’s visit at KATH was to assess the progress of the ongoing renovation works at the old blocks which serves as the main in-patient facilities of the hospital. The renovation and modernization of the blocks, the first of its kind since the hospital commenced operations in 1955, is aimed at transforming them into world-class facilities for the provision of specialist in-patient services to the public.
During the visit, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II interacted with hospital staff and patients, emphasizing the importance of renovating the old “Gee” blocks to improve healthcare delivery in the region and beyond. He expressed his commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare infrastructure and development ensuring the comfort and well-being of patients.
Architect Kojo Darko-Asante, Ashanti Regional Architect of the Public Works Department (PDW), consultant for the project, briefed the Asantehene on the program of works for the project.
The Chief Executive of the hospital, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, said Otumfuo’s visit demonstrates his unwavering commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring the well-being of the people in the Ashanti region and Ghana at large. ” The Board, Management, staff and patients of the hospital owe the Asantehene a debt of gratitude for his timely intervention in initiating the projects”, he echoed.
Present at the event were the Board and Management members of the hospital.
The delegation proceeded to the construction site of the regional hospital at Sewua, after the inspection at KATH, where the Regional Health Director, Dr. Emmanuel Tinkorang, led Otumfuo and other dignitaries to inspect the facility.
